Partners, not opponents, practice carefully designed defense drills, which progress in difficulty while the student progresses through the belt ranks. Stationary or handheld targets are used to practice development of technical power and cardiac stamina. Movements in the air are not performed with great force or locked out joints, which degrade the body over time and often lead to injury. There is also no sparring or breaking boards.
